MediaWiki must be pinned at 1.37 in order to use LDAP authentication.
PluggableAuth must be a 5.7 in order to work with LDAPAuthentication2 and LDAPProvider, and the last release of MediaWiki supporting that is 1.37 (tracked in the REL1_37 vs. REL1.38 extension.json files).
LDAPAuthentication2's authors are aware of this issue and tracking it in this conversation.
We are pushing commit bef53d5889 to hold mediawiki until this is done.
